In the day to day scenario, young children who are between 12 to 16 years of age are more vulnerable to the habit of playing video games. All over the world, video games have become the favorite pass time for kids. They entertain a kid and make him/her feel happy. Kids of both genders are most likely to play video games, but especially boy kids show a greater affinity towards playing video games. There are children who play video games for nearly 3 to 6 hours a day. Video games have the ability to influence your kid in a positive way as well as in a negative way. A child develops better coordination of eyes and hand while playing video games. Moreover, the creativity and thinking capacity of a kid can be greatly enhanced by playing. A wide variety of video games are being introduced by the leading producers in the market every year. A large percentage of children are found to be attracted to violence and sports games whereas, only around 2% of the kids show interest in playing educational games. The violence content in the video games can affect a child psychologically and make the child behave in an aggressive manner when a child becomes addicted to it. Video games are also known to cause a number of health problems like changes in the heartbeat rate and blood pressure. It is important to teach your kid, to make use of the video games in a constructive way rather than in a self destructive way.

A large percentage of children involve themselves in speaking over the phone unnecessarily for long hours and are deprived of sleep due to this addiction. The rays which are emitted by the mobile phone are known to affect the brain and nervous system. Children who are below 16 years of age are more likely to be affected by the health hazards of mobile phone, as the nervous system in children will still be in the process of growth. The culture of using mobile phone often, also weakens the beautiful relationship between the child and the family. The parents should ensure that their child does not misuse the advantages of having mobile and guide them properly. When a child gets addicted to the habit of using mobile continuously, it is highly essential to take your child to a proper health care center.

The influence of media in young children is very much intense in recent days. Statistical evidences reveal that, a very large percentage of young children are addicted to the habit of watching television continuously. Many of the shows that are being watched by the kids involve violence in one form or the other. The TV programs include a lot of fight scenes, arrogance and blood shed which have a tremendous impact on the behavior of kids. When a child watches such violence, it affects the child mentally without your knowledge. Many kids try to imitate the stunts of their superheros which might cause any physical injury and in extreme cases it might even lead to death. So, care must be taken to ensure that your kids don’t indulge themselves in such activities. Violence not only lies in TV shows but it is also observed in the society and even among the family. Family quarrels and social disputes in the society are also found to be the major factors for making a child violent. The children who are affected psychologically due to violence, show changes in their behavior. For instance, the child becomes aggressive, arrogant and short tempered. It is in the hands of the parents to make them resume back to normal behavior. Bedwetting is a common condition that is seen to exist in people of all age groups, especially in children who are below 6years of age. Bedwetting is defined as the habit of passing urine unknowingly at night. Bedwetting in children can be caused due to a variety of reasons. The major reason behind this condition is the fact that children’s brain, take more time to gain control over the body functions including urination. Bedwetting can also be caused due to the inadequate synthesis of ADH hormone. In some children the size of the bladder will be comparatively small. This causes the bladder to experience lot of pressure and urinate unknowingly. Urinary infection in kids is also known to cause this habit of bedwetting. Psychological disturbance and stress due to child abuse, family problems, etc are also found to have major impact on a child, ultimately leading to bedwetting.  There are some remedial measures that can be adopted, in order to make your kid get rid of this habit. Wake your child in the middle of night to empty the bladder. Don’t allow your child to intake more fluid before going to sleep. Never blame your child for bedwetting, as it will create a sense of fear and shame in the child. If the condition worsens by causing the child to urinate frequently then it is advisable to consult a doctor.

Nowadays, the development in technology has caused even young children to use computers. According to scientific theory and statistics, it is estimated that computer knowledge should be imparted to a child only after 3years of age. Until 3years, the child should not be allowed to use computers. From preschool, the teacher should begin initiating the children to use computers in a right way. It is the responsibility of the parents to verify that their children don’t use computers for a long time, as it may have negative effects on the children. In recent days, more number of young children are found to be getting addicted to the habit of playing computer games continuously for hours together. Addiction to computer games is found to affect a child mentally. Many changes in the behavior can be observed in such children. The child will be isolated from family and friends, frustrated often, tempted to use computer continuously without his/her control, difficulty in studies, etc. The child will also suffer from physical problems like headache, body pain, eye sight problem, lack of sleep, etc. If the above changes are observed in a child, then proper measures need to be taken in order to help your child to be relieved from this addiction of computer games. Although computers are needed in day today life of a child, care must be taken to ensure that, they don’t become addicted to over usage of computers.

NailbitingNail biting is not a serious problem or disease. This habit of nail biting can occur in people of any age group but it is more commonly seen condition in children. A number of factors are responsible for making a child addicted towards this habit. The first and foremost reason that is found to cause this habit is insecurity. Many children nowadays are deprived of proper love and care from their mother. This causes a feeling of loneliness and insecurity to occur in the mind of children. Mental stress due to daily routine activities, fear, anxiety and tension are also known to be some of the factors which are responsible for inducing a child to get into the habit of biting nails. This habit can be eradicated under the guidance and assistance of parents. Parents should observe the child periodically and check when the child is engaged in biting nails and can cover the fingers with puppets. It is also important to advise your child on the ill effects of nail biting and tell your kid that the nails contain harmful microbes and germs that are capable of causing sickness. Something bitter can be rubbed in your child’s handle to control himself/herself from biting nails. Cutting nails periodically will also help a child to get rid of this habit. Ensure that your child doesn’t become addicted to this habit as it may affect the mental growth and self confidence of a child.

Instead a child should enjoy reading as it gives immense pleasure and relaxation. There are various factors that are responsible for poor reading habit among children. The main reason is lack of proper motivation from parents and teachers. It is the responsibility of each and every parent to influence the kid and stress the importance of inculcating reading habit in children and guide them in choosing the right kind of books. Many authors don’t come forward to write children literature. As the availability of children literature is scarce, the children don’t engage themselves in reading books. Moreover the homework and extra classes becomes a burden and hence the kids don’t find time for reading. Reading practice not only entertains a child but it is also considered to be a source of providing exposure and experience to children. While reading, kids come across many new facts and happenings which are highly informative and help to develop the intellect of a child. Open your mind and accept what the book has got to tell you. Studies have revealed that a child who has the habit of reading regularly in leisure time is found to be more intelligent and excel in academics than a child who doesn’t have reading habit. Thus reading habit is a strong foundation for children’s knowledge and exposure.
